Θέατρο Διονύσου

In 534, about ten years before the birth of Aeschylus, the  Athenian tyrant Peisistratus caused the cult centre of the god Dionysos Eleuthereus to be transferred from the town in Attica of Eleusis, bordering with Megara, to the centre of Athens, to a site just south of the Acropolis. Here he instituted an annual festival known as the Great or City Dionysia.
